Visit World Sensorium Ireland at the 2024 Climate Festival
The World Sensorium Ireland, part of the broader VOICE initiative and led by Gayil Nalls, integrates cultural heritage with environmental awareness to support biodiversity and climate literacy. The project combines ethnobotany with art, creating immersive experiences that encourage the public to engage with Ireland’s native plant species and ecological heritage. Through interactive installations, educational workshops, and community participation, World Sensorium seeks to deepen the understanding of environmental stewardship by linking cultural memory with sustainable practices.
Favourite Aromatic Plant of Ireland
The World Sensorium project seeks to preserve and celebrate the unique olfactory heritage of various cultures by identifying iconic natural scents—aromas derived from plants that hold deep cultural, medicinal, and emotional significance. This time focusing on bogs and the scent of burning turf as key elements of Irish coastal areas and marine habitats, artist Gayil Nalls wants to discover the impacts of shifting away from peat burning on personal and community traditions but also, which other scents of Ireland’s aromatic flora are culturally significant.
