Six Artist-Led Projects start their VOICE journey
VOICE aims to incorporate a variety of artist-led innovations into practical, real-life situations while encouraging citizen engagement.
21st of October – The VOICE Project starts with the pilot phase where six selected pilot artistic-led projects will go through the first phase of the project. This is one of the first steps in bringing together artists and citizens, towards the common goal of helping make community impacts towards alleviating the climate crisis using artist-led approaches.
VOICE brings together artists, citizens, industry, and key stakeholders to promote citizen engagement in targeting projects which intend to take on global ecological and sustainability challenges. Through a strong Community of Practice, VOICE enables artists to act as facilitators to bring people from diverse backgrounds together to co-create. By integrating creative expression and technological innovation in real-world settings and communities, the project aims to inspire new, imaginative approaches to sustainability and contribute to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Overall, the VOICE project consists of two phases focusing on Art-Technology-Society Interactions (ATSI). The first phase is the pilot phase comprising 6 selected pilots that will go through the VOICE process, learning and implementing new methods including pCr praxis, as well as benefiting from mentoring, a capacity building programme, funding, and communication support. Implementing this first phase is important as it is used to prepare and test the process for the second phase where ATSI invitations will be published. Within those invitations, 14 artist-led projects will be selected to go through the VOICE process.
‘’We’re thrilled to launch these first six pilots, each one offering a unique approach to connecting art, technology, and society in tackling today’s critical sustainability needs.‘’, says Zeynep Birsel, a Concept and Project Developer from WAAG and leader of the ATSI Programme within VOICE. ‘’This pilot phase is essential as it lets us shape and refine the VOICE process, ensuring each project can reach its full potential. By providing essential support to new artist-led thinking, VOICE helps lay a foundation for future generations to continue exploring creative solutions and foster citizen engagement in a new way.’’
The six projects that have been selected to be a part of the VOICE Pilot phase are:
- Anna Dumitriu, Project Title: Greening the Lab – Decarbonising Biomedical Science
- Gayil Nalls, Project Title: World Sensorium – Ireland and Connecting Europe
- Jakob Kukula, Project Title: RiverSynch
- Lucie Hernandez, Project Title: Designing E-textile practice samplers to increase participation in clothes repair
- Marina Wainer, Project Title: Synocene – beyond the Anthropocene
- Ruth Catlow, Project Title: Empowering Youth Stewards of Finsbury Park Biodiversity
Each project will use a different combination of technologies and methods within their communities in areas such as County Kerry, Berlin, Sussex, Finsbury Park, Ealing Repair Café, and Ulvenhout Forest.
